On June 1, 2023, Kao Meng-hsun made history by becoming the first-ever female chief justice of Taiwan’s Supreme Court.
高孟焄於2023年6月1日上任，成為台灣最高法院有史以來首位女院長，寫下歷史新頁。

In a speech during her appointment ceremony, Chief Justice Kao noted several things that she will address in her new position.

First, she said that she will work toward making trials more efficient, while also unifying citizens’ legal options.

Additionally, with labor shortages affecting the Supreme Court, Kao noted that she will focus on creating courts that are more stable and well-organized to benefit all of the judges.

Judicial Yuan President Hsu Tzong-li also spoke at the ceremony, giving words of praise for Chief Justice Kao.

According to Hsu, Kao’s years of legal experience and knowledge will greatly benefit the way the high court operates.
