The International Monetary Fund decided to retain Kristalina Georgieva as its managing director despite accusations that she improperly influenced a report to favor China when she was CEO of the World Bank.

Georgieva’s future had been in limbo since September. That is when a report written by the law firm WilmerHale and commissioned by the World Bank asserted that she pressured staff to amend rankings to China’s benefit in the World Bank’s “Doing Business” report.

The fund said information presented during its review “did not conclusively demonstrate that the Managing Director played an improper role.”

The affair has caused a rift between key members of the IMF. France, Germany, Italy and the UK indicated that they backed Georgieva to remain as head of the IMF. However, the US declined to express public support for her.
