A recent survey by IT Media has revealed that only half of Japanese companies have female managers, as the country continues to struggle with gaping gender imbalances in the workplace.

The survey, which collected data from 10,000 Japanese companies, found that 48.4 percent lacked any women in management positions, and that women accounted for only 30.5 percent of management roles in companies that did hire them.

IT Media found that the total number of female managers in Japanese companies has risen by only 0.4 percent in the last year, falling far behind the country’s objective to raise female executive officers at listed companies to 30 percent by 2020.
