First-time job seekers in Taiwan usually spend an average of 6.5 months to land a job, according to a survey by the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS).
根據主計總處調查,初次尋職者平均得花6.5個月才能找到工作。

Pan Ning-hsin, deputy director of the DGBAS’s census department, said that owing to a lack of experience, it takes longer for first-time job hunters to find a job than people who have worked before.

Pan said that in 2017, people with work experience took 23.7 weeks to secure a job, whereas first-time job seekers took 26 weeks on average.

Meanwhile, the jobless rate for June rose 0.07 percentage points from a month earlier to 3.70 percent, with 439,000 people out of employment.

Pan said with the graduation season, the surge in new entrants to the job market had pushed the unemployment rate higher, but the adverse effect was offset to some degree by ongoing economic growth.

Pan said that Taiwan’s labor market remains stable and that the effect of the current graduation season on the jobless rate is expected to continue in July and August before fading in September.
