Ada’s business has failed and she has ended up bankrupt. So she goes to the bank to consult her trustee about filing for bankruptcy.

Trustee: Now that you can’t settle the debts, you’ll have to give up the purchased items. Jewelry, electronics, furniture, and large appliances generally fall into this category.

Trustee: Not really. You can seek an exemption that allows you to keep a certain amount of assets safe from bankruptcy, such as your car, professional tools, clothing, and retirement account.
受託人：不一定。您可尋求豁免權，讓您在破產時能繼續持有特定數量的資產，像是汽車、工作上所需的工具、衣物與退休帳戶。

Ada: That means my bank won’t strip all of my money, right?

Trustee: Yes. You can still keep cash in bankruptcy as long as it qualifies as an exempt asset. However, your bank might freeze your account once they are notified of your bankruptcy in order to preserve the assets for your creditors.
受託人：對啊。您在破產時還是可以保有現金，只要它符合豁免資產的條件。不過，銀行一收到您破產的通知，可能就會凍結您的帳戶，以保留資產支付債權人。

Trustee: Your bank has the right to dip into your account balance and use the money in your account to offset any payments or debts you owe to the bank. In some cases, you could also be served with a garnishment summons.
受託人：銀行有權挪用您的帳戶餘額，並用帳戶裡的錢來抵銷您欠銀行的款項與債務。在某些情況下，您也可能會收到債權扣押的通知。
