Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg Finally Weighs in on Cambridge Analytica
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has finally addressed the growing crisis confronting his company over how Cambridge Analytica allegedly harvested data from millions of users without their direct consent.

The CEO acknowledged in a lengthy Facebook post that the policies that allowed the misuse of data were “a breach of trust between Facebook and its users”.

Facebook’s privacy crisis was brought to light after the Observer reported that in 2013, a Cambridge University researcher Aleksandr Kogan had created an app and extracted data from 50 million people, and then shared it with Cambridge Analytica.

In his statement, Zuckerberg pledged to investigate “all apps that had access to large troves of personal data” before a change the company made in 2014 to restrict the information third-party apps could receive.

The CEO said that to ensure incidents like this will not happen again, the social media giant plans to further limit the amount of data third-party developers can access.
Facebook will also turn off data sharing for apps that haven’t been used for three months and move the tool that allows users to control the data they share from the Settings menu to the News Feed.
However, Zuckerberg’s measured response to the Cambridge Analytica story is widely criticized for missing an explanation as to why Facebook enabled so much third-party access to its users’ information for so many years.
