Experts from Germany have suggested a plan as to what to do with Taiwan’s Fourth Nuclear Power Plant, although it may not be what might be expected.

During a visit organized by the German Trade Office Taipei, visiting specialists from six German companies and research organizations suggested turning the Lungmen Nuclear Power Plant into a theme park.

The delegation, put together by the German Trade Office Taipei and German’s Baden-Wurttemberg International, held a forum last month in Taipei and shared their experiences of decommissioning nuclear power plants.

Oskar Grozninger, the former head of Germany’s Nuclear Energy Supervision and Radiation Protections Department, cited the example of the Kalkar Nuclear Power Plant, which was refitted as a theme park after the project was canceled in 1991.
前德國核設施審批監管司長格羅辛格舉了德國卡爾卡爾核電廠的例子，在1991年該項目被取消後改建為主題公園。

It took four years to convert facilities at the power plant into “Wunderland Kalkar”, which today hosts around 600,000 visitors a year.

Taiwan is currently debating what to do with its fourth nuclear power plant, which after years of on-and-off construction, was finally confirmed for decommission in March.
