In response to its own workers’ cases of “overemployment,” Equifax, a credit-reporting service, recently fired 24 remote workers for “holding down multiple jobs simultaneously.”

Despite the trend of around 4 million U.S. workers working multiple full-time jobs, Equifax conducted an investigation into employees that were suspected of extra employment that conflicted with their positions at the company.

In order to do this, Equifax employed their own surveillance product called The Work Number, which “collects employment records from 2.5 million companies,” to spy on their workers.

In a statement by the company spokesperson, the “employees were terminated because of multiple factors, including in many cases their own admission that they had a secondary full-time position, which prevented them from fulfilling their full-time obligations to Equifax.”
