After much fanfare online, Elon Musk, CEO and founder of SpaceX, has revealed that the first private passenger to go to the moon will be Japanese entrepreneur and billionaire Yusaku Maezawa.

“He’s a very brave person to do this,” Musk said of the Japanese entrepreneur, whose identity was revealed at an event at SpaceX’s headquarters and rocket factory in the Los Angeles suburb of Hawthorne.

Speaking at the launch in Los Angeles, he told reporters that he plans to bring six to eight artists to the moon free of charge so that they can create masterpieces to be enjoyed around the world — a project which he has given the affectionate title #dearMoon.

“Through the ages, the moon has filled our imagination, so I named this project with constant love and respect for our planet’s constant partner,” he said.
