Hong Kong Canadian singer Ellen Joyce Loo spoke out in favor of marriage equality last week at Taipei’s 2018 International Family Day Festival.

The 32-year-old artist said that equal marriage rights are both an important issue for same-sex couples that wish to start their own families, and a major step forward for LGBTQI rights.

The Cantopop star has been busy in Hong Kong preparing for the release of her new album, but came specially to Taipei to support same-sex marriage at the event, hosted with the support of the Taipei City Government Department of Civil Affairs.

Speaking at the Family Day Festival, Loo said, “I never thought that I would be able to start my own family, nor did I think I would meet someone who would love me more than myself. No one can stop us from being a family. Marriage equality is extremely important, and no one has the right to deprive us of it.”

Regarding recent events in Taiwan, she said, “I know that the road to marriage equality in Taiwan has faced setbacks recently, but to make a more civilized society, I still support this issue.”
談到台灣近期發生的事件，盧凱彤說：「我知道台灣在婚姻平權修法還是遇到很多困難，但為了更文明的社會，我選擇支持婚姻平權。」
