Hong Kong singer and activist Denise Ho was attacked with red paint in Taipei on Sunday, ahead of a march in support of pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong.

Ho was speaking with local reporters at the Taipei rally when a masked man suddenly emerged behind her and splattered the back of her head with red paint.

Despite the attack, Ho remained calm and continued speaking to the press. She said that Hong Kong activists deal with the same kind of intimidation on a daily basis.

Two Taiwanese men were apprehended immediately after the attack, said Taiwan’s Crime Investigation Bureau.

The bureau said the duo were linked to the Chinese Unity Promotion Party (CUPP), an organized crime group which supports Taiwan’s “eventual unification” with China.

Two hours after the incident, Ho said at a press conference that she would pursue legal action against the pair who had assaulted her.

President Tsai Ing-wen said in a Facebook statement that the two assailants would face severe legal punishment.
