Researchers are developing a special tattoo ink that can vary in color with changes in glucose, albumin and pH levels in the human body, allowing patients with diabetes and kidney disease to keep track of their health conditions at any time.

The tattoo ink penetrates the skin in a similar way to ordinary tattoo ink, but it contains chemical dyes that react to specific “biomarkers” in the blood.
