A coalition of civil groups presented a petition bearing almost 30,000 signatures to the Central Election Commission (CEC) on December 26, in a bid to recall Kaohsiung Mayor Han Kuo-yu.

Once the CEC has verified their petition, the coalition will proceed to the second phase; they will be required to collect at least 228,134 signatures, or the support of 10% of the city’s electorate.
