Some of China’s largest industrial polluters are being asked by the country’s environment ministry to more strictly report their carbon dioxide emissions.

According to a notice issued by the ministry, Chinese factories across seven key industries — aluminum, cement, steel, chemicals, petrochemicals, paper and aviation — that release “the equivalent of more than 26,000 tons of CO2 a year” will be required to verify their 2022 emissions data by December of this year.
