Ant Group’s world record-breaking initial public offering in Shanghai and Hong Kong has been suspended just two days before the scheduled offering, an abrupt move that thwarts what was set to be the largest share sale in history.

The Shanghai Stock Exchange announced that the company’s proposed offering might no longer meet the requirements for listing after Chinese regulators summoned the company’s billionaire co-founder Jack Ma for a meeting. Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing soon also halted the IPO.

Ant Group apologized for the suspension of its IPO and will work through the regulatory concerns with the Hong Kong and Shanghai stock exchanges.

The dual listing was expected to raise $37 billion, making it the biggest share sale in history. Saudi Arabia state-owned oil company Saudi Aramco holds the record for an IPO. It raised $29.4 billion when it went public on the Riyadh exchange last December.
