China launched large-scale military drills around Taiwan on Monday, Oct. 14, in response to Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te’s National Day address on Oct. 10.

Named Joint Sword-2024B, these exercises involved Chinese ground, air, naval, and rocket forces operating in the Taiwan Strait and in areas north, south, and east of Taiwan.
