陳建仁重返中研院
Vice President Chen Chien-jen announced that he would give up his pension and privileges after leaving office and return to his position as a research fellow at Academia Sinica.

He said after accompanying Taiwan through pension reform, the legalization of same-sex marriage, and the Covid-19 pandemic, “now is the time to return to Academia Sinica as ‘a little pencil in God’s hands’ to continue research, publish papers, and write books!”

According to the Act of Courtesy for Former Presidents and Vice Presidents, all former vice presidents are entitled to a pension of NT$180,000 per month, plus a NT$4 million annual budget to cover their security detail, chauffeur, and office expenses.
依據《卸任總統副總統禮遇條例》規定，我國卸任副總統享有的禮遇包括每月18萬元禮遇金，加上400萬元的辦公事務費，以支付維安、司機和辦公室費用。

Chen’s return to his position at Academia Sinica means that he will continue to serve as a civil servant and voluntarily give up all these benefits, making him the first Taiwanese vice president to ever do so.
