Former vice premier Chen Chi-mai of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party won a landslide victory in the Kaohsiung mayoral by-election with 671,804 votes, or around 70% of all ballots, breaking the record set by his comrade Chen Chu with 68.1% in 2014.
民進黨籍前行政院院長陳其邁於高雄市市長補選中獲得壓倒性的勝利，共獲67萬1千804票，得票率約7成，打破2014年時同黨陳菊所創下的紀錄（68.1％）。

Chen’s biggest rival, Kuomintang Kaohsiung city councilor Jane Lee won 248,478 votes, which is 25.9% of all ballots, while the other opponent, a member of the Taiwan People’s Party and Kaohsiung city councilor Wu Yi-jheng had 38,960 votes, or 4.06%.
陳其邁的勁敵、國民黨籍高雄市市議員李眉蓁獲得24萬8千478票、得票率25.9％，另一位對手民眾黨高雄市市議員吳益政則獲3萬8千960票、得票率4.06％。

In a press conference after the election results came out, Lee congratulated Chen on his win and urged her supporters to give Chen a chance to lead Kaohsiung to a brighter future.

Wu, who cannot retrieve the election deposit of NT$2 million because his number of votes did not meet the threshold set by the Election and Recall Act (10% of all ballots, which is 230,160 votes), also gave Chen his best wishes, suggesting that Chen could use some of the policies that Wu had proposed during the election.
吳益政則因為得票數未超過選罷法規定的總票數一成（23萬160票），無法取回200萬選舉保證金。不過他仍然向陳其邁道賀，並且建議陳其邁能參考他所提出的政見作為施政參考。

Chen’s triumph was based on a turnout of 41.8%, lower than the 42.1% for June’s mayoral recall vote. Meanwhile, his around 670,000 votes were also fewer than the 930,000 votes in favor of unseating the then-Kaohsiung mayor.

Yet, the election commission said that by-elections usually have a lower turnout rate than regular elections.
不過，選委會指出，通常補選投票率都較一般選舉低。

According to law, the mayor-elect will be sworn in within 10 days following the announcement of the by-election results. Therefore, Chen is expected to take office by the end of August.
根據法律，市長當選人應在補選結果公告10日內宣誓就職。因此陳其邁預計會在8月底前就任。
