A five-story apartment building in New Taipei City’s Sanchong District collapsed on Jan. 6.

News sources have stated that digging at a nearby construction site on Liuzhang Street caused the 40-year-old building to lean and then fall over.

The New Taipei Fire Department was sent to the apartment building on the morning of Jan. 6 after a resident noticed and reported damage, which included cracked floor tiles.

City authorities also moved quickly to stop the building from falling over. Efforts were made to fill the construction site with water, dirt and cement.
