Bill Gates is a household name due to his business acumen and philanthropy, and he is also known for accurately predicting the occurrence of a future pandemic in his 2015 TED Talk.

Due to his ability to seemingly foresee the rise of COVID-19, many are listening to his newest prediction: a global threat of bioterrorism.
foresee(v.)預見、預知、預料=predict=forecast
In a recent BBC interview, Gates warned that bioterrorism is the next “growing threat to global security.”
In fact, he compared bioterror to pandemics, in that both of them “expose mankind to dangerous and even deadly diseases.”
compare A to or with B 比較A與Bin that因為expose…to…使…
However, Gates noted that preparation would be more imperative for defending against bioterror attacks, as those trying to carry them out intentionally design their biological weapons to breach established defense systems.

Interpol, the International Criminal Police Organization, has already supported Gates’ claims, noting that there is “sufficient information available to indicate that some individuals and terrorist groups have the capability and intent to use biological agents to cause harm to society.”

Interpol has even gone so far as to develop a manual to help officers and emergency personnel respond safely and effectively to attacks by biological or toxic substances.
go so far as to RV甚至做到…的地步
The development of these types of measures is clearly in line with Gates’ emphasis on preparedness.

The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention has pegged anthrax as the most likely disease to be used in a biological attack.
peg A as B認為A是B、把A視作B=think of A as B
The bacteria that causes anthrax can enter the body “through the skin, lungs, or gastrointestinal system,” causing mild to severe symptoms—eventually leading to death if not treated with antibiotics.
gastrointestinal(adj.)與腸胃相關的mild(adj.)輕微的severe(adj.)
Unfortunately, anthrax attacks have already occurred. In 2001, letters containing powdered anthrax were sent in the US mail, killing five people and affecting 17 others.
powdered(adj.)
Along with Interpol, the CDC is taking preparation seriously, recommending that citizens develop emergency plans and assemble disaster supply kits for bioterror attacks.
However, despite these efforts, Gates believes that more activation and international cooperation is necessary “to ensure that the world is better prepared against biological threats.”
