The tiny Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan has become the first nation in the world to vaccinate and sterilize its entire stray dog population.

At the project’s closing ceremony, HSI’s Keren Nazareth said that Bhutan’s government and its people made the program an extraordinary success, while Bhutan’s Prime Minister called it a “historic achievement for animal welfare and human health.”
