Authorities have launched an investigation into the Dec. 4 death of famed crypto expert Miffy Chen.

The Taipei Times has reported that Prosecutor-General Hsing Tai-chao asked the Hsinchu District Prosecutors’ Office to look into the “suspicious circumstances” surrounding the car crash in which Chen died.

The crash reportedly happened after a meeting with Taichung prosecutors regarding a case that she and her boyfriend, who is a Criminal Investigation Bureau detective, were working on.

According to the Taipei Times, Chen was responsible for helping Taiwanese authorities track down around NT$9.3 billion in alleged illegal funds.

CIB Deputy Commissioner Huang Jen-tsung noted on Dec. 5 that most of the “illegal cryptocurrency proceeds” seized through criminal cases over the past several years were partly due to Chen’s efforts.
