At Apple’s annual developer conference in June, held virtually because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the tech heavyweight announced a new feature that will allow users to unlock, lock and start their cars with their iPhones.
因應新冠肺炎疫情，蘋果6月的全球開發者大會改以虛擬方式進行。蘋果在會中宣佈了CarKey功能，能讓使用者利用iPhone解鎖或鎖上車輛及發動引擎。

Called “CarKey,” the digital key was set to be rolled out with iOS14, but the recently released iOS 13.6 already supports the feature.
CarKey原先預計與iOS14同步發佈，不過最新推出的iOS 13.6已支援此功能。

Apple said that security is key when it comes to interchanging information among devices, especially when privacy is involved. The company stressed that the CarKey data would be secured locally in individual iPhones rather than being stored in the cloud. Face ID and Wallet also work the same way.
蘋果表示在不同裝置間交換資訊、尤其是涉及隱私時，安全性是一大重點。蘋果強調CarKey的數據會個別存在使用者端的手機內，不會上傳到雲端。Face ID和Wallet的運作方式也是如此。

When necessary, car owners can send CarKey information to other iPhones via Apple’s iMessage.

Moreover, the company is hoping to collaborate with automobile manufacturers to integrate Apple’s U1 chip into this system. The U1 chip would significantly increase the communication range between the devices, which would allow users to operate the digital key with the phone being in a bag or pocket.

The BMW 5 series to be released in 2021 will be the first models equipped with Apple’s CarKey.

According to TechCrunch, BMW has had a similar feature called BMW Digital Key, which is available on some Samsung Galaxy devices running Android 8.0 or above.
TechCrunch報導，BMW已有BMW Digital Key手機數位鑰匙功能，作業系統要求需是 Android 8.0 以上版本，支援部分Galaxy手機型號。
