Ang Lee, one of Taiwan’s best-known film makers, has been chosen by the Directors Guild of America to receive the 2018 DGA Honors award for his contributions to film and cinema.

Lee has had an impressive career. He broke into the American film industry by making films in his native Taiwan, including the 1993 romantic comedy The Wedding Banquet.

However, his biggest break came in 2000, when he received an Oscar for Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and made himself hugely famous internationally.

He also later won Academy awards for his films Brokeback Mountain (2005) and Life of Pi (2012).

Lee will receive the award at the DGA Theater in New York City on October 18.
