According to the Taiwan News, an Air New Zealand flight bound for Shanghai was forced to turn back to Auckland on Feb. 9th by Chinese authorities, after several hours in the air.

Some said that the reason behind the incident is that Air New Zealand used wording which implied that Taiwan is an independent country, although the matter itself has yet to be confirmed by local New Zealand authorities.

When asked to comment on the issue by the news agency, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern pointed out that the relations between China and New Zealand are not getting worse.
