Emma is from the US. She is visiting her friend Jason, who is studying at a university in Taiwan.

Emma: Jason, I love Da’an Forest Park. It’s so calm here.
艾瑪：傑森，我很喜歡大安森林公園。這裡好安靜。
Jason: Yeah, it’s one of the best spots in Taipei.
傑森：對啊，這是台北最棒的地方之一。

Emma: But I had a bit of a shock just now.

Emma: I went to the restroom and saw a squat toilet. I had no idea how to use it.
艾瑪：我去上廁所，結果看到蹲式馬桶。我完全不知道怎麼用。

Jason: Yeah, some places still have them.
傑森：對啊，有些地方還是有蹲式的。
Emma: We don’t have those in the US. We only use sitting toilets.
艾瑪：在美國沒有那種廁所。我們只用坐式馬桶。
Jason: A lot of people here prefer sitting ones too, especially older folks.
傑森：這裡很多人也比較喜歡坐式的，特別是年長的人。

Emma: And I noticed the trash can for toilet paper. I thought, “Wait, don’t you flush it?”
艾瑪：我還注意到有放衛生紙的垃圾桶。我心裡想：「咦，不是應該沖掉嗎？」

Jason: Good question. In Taiwan, people often throw it in the trash can. They worry it’ll clog the toilet.
傑森：好問題。在台灣，人們常常把衛生紙丟垃圾桶。他們怕會塞住馬桶。

Emma: But it’s actually okay to flush, right?
艾瑪：可是其實沖掉是沒問題的，對吧？
Jason: Yeah, toilet paper is fine. It’s more habit than fact.
傑森：對啊，衛生紙沖掉是可以的。這比較像是一種習慣，不是真的問題。

Emma: I see. A clean restroom really changes the impression of a place.
艾瑪：我懂了。乾淨的廁所真的會改變對一個地方的印象。

Jason: Totally. Some toilets here are super modern — heated seats, water spray, the works.
傑森：沒錯。這裡有些廁所超先進——有溫熱坐墊、水洗功能，什麼都有。

Emma: So in Taiwan, going to the bathroom can be full of surprises!
艾瑪：所以在台灣，上廁所真的會有各種驚喜！
