Yang Hsin-tzu, a vice executive secretary of the Here I Stand Project, recently received a harassing phone call from a caller who said he was an Eslite Bookstore employee.

The caller said they were doing a survey of buyers of a book that Yang bought from Eslite earlier, titled “What Happens When the CPC Attacks.”

However, this seemingly harmless phone call would turn out to be much more than a survey.

The caller spoke with a non-Taiwanese accent, which was enough to alarm Yang.

Second, the caller wanted to pass on ideas about China’s ability to take over Taiwan, pointing to the possibility of the Chinese government’s efforts to change Taiwanese people’s minds.
