For most people, reaching the age of 100 would be reason enough to put one’s feet up and take it easy, but Lisel Heise has other ideas.

As a councilor, one of her major focuses is to reopen the town’s outdoor swimming pool, which closed in 2011. Heise has been vocal in her efforts to resurrect it but found that, as an older woman, her opinions were often ignored.

In addition to reopening the pool, Heise also plans to help get a youth and children’s club up and running. "Our youth have been pushed into second place here," she said.
