After listening to a violin performance when he was six, Huang begged to learn the violin. He then entered the music class at Yongfu Elementary School in Tainan, and once won first place at the Star of Tomorrow competition of the Taipei Symphony Orchestra. After the second year of junior high school, he began studying in advanced classes at the Julliard School of Music in the US and performed outstandingly well.

Huang is currently studying under the [renowned Korean instructor] Hyo Kang. At such a young age, he recently became one of the first-chair violinists in the International Sejong Soloists sponsored by Korean Corporation Samsung this June, also making him the youngest member of the orchestra. He returned with glory to Tainan recently and said that he would give his parents the US$15,000 in prize money and also the prize money from audience votes, as thanks for their efforts in nurturing him.
